Mark Milnes
About
Mark Milnes studied Fine Art at Bretton Hall (College of the University of Leeds) between 1992 and 1995, and has exhibited on a regular basis since graduating. He has been involved in exhibitions throughout the country, including several solo shows in Yorkshire and further afield. In 2003 Mark completed a second degree studying Art History with the Open University.
Mark worked as Development Officer for Mirfield’s West Yorkshire Print Workshop from 2007 to 2011. He has managed the exhibitions programme at Batley Art Gallery since 2005 and is Artistic Director of Creative Arts Hub, an organisation he established to support to creative sector in the West Yorkshire area. Mark is an associate member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors (RBS).
Mark’s work is usually abstract and geometric, and is formed by repetitions of similar or identical shapes, arranged in rhythmical sequences. The work rarely makes literal reference to the world around us – its abstract nature and apparent simplicity allows a focus upon the interrelation of shapes, volumes, space and light.
